The school started operation in Jan 2008 and was officially opened by Mr Lui Tuck Yew, who was then the Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, on 23 July 2010.

Beacon Primary School is part of the FutureSchools@Singapore programme which is a collaborative effort between Ministry of Education and Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), aims to effectively harness technology for engaged learning.

The CCA available here include Art Media and Design Club, Chinese Dance Club, Chinese Language and Culture Club, Choir, English Language Drama & Debate Society, Intellectual Games Club, Library, Malay Dance Club, Maths & Science Club, Multi-sports Club, New Media Club, Robotics and Innovation Club, Scouts, Football Club, String Ensemble - Ukulele Club, Tchoukball Club, Visual Arts Club and Wushu Club.
